It’s no surprise that I love good food and eating it makes me happy. Through a friend, Sandy Panther, I stumbled upon an old school deli in the Valley. In my quest to find the best deli in LA I think this one is definitely up there. They specialize in hot brisket, corned beef and hot pastrami sandwiches. It’s a German deli, and I tell everybody this, their food could be life changing, it’s that good! I’ve tried all three and never have been disappointed. This is the oldest deli in the Valley, open in 1954 by a guy named Marv (duh) now owned by Herman who has been there for 30 years. When you walk in to this old deli that hasn’t been updated in over 40 years, which turn you off at first, Herman, is there with his wife every day and remembers you. You walk in and he asks you how you’re doing, if you’re hungry and tells you to sit down and makes the sandwich they way it is authentically ment to be eaten. Herman loves to joke, makes you feel right at home and will talk your ear off. The pastrami with this really good homemade spicy mustard and a special russian dressing. The meat is abundant, warm, tender and so easy to bite through. It feels like you walked into your old uncles kitchen and just makes you this amazing, mouth-watering sandwich, served with a half a pickle and your choice of cole slaw, macaroni salad or potato salad. This is your typical hole-in-the-wall spot in the Valley that anytime a friend comes to visit from out of town, this is the first place you take them to.
